Rock Creek is currently flowing at approximately 900 cubic feet per second (cfs), with water temperatures ranging between 52°F and 58°F. While flows remain high, they have become more manageable for wade anglers due to recent cooler nighttime temperatures, which have led to a substantial drop in water levels.
Hatch Activity
The much-anticipated salmonfly hatch is in full swing, with these large stoneflies present throughout Rock Creek from top to bottom. In addition to salmonflies, anglers can expect to see golden stones, yellow sallies, and green drakes emerging as the month progresses.

Fishing Tips
Trout are targeting salmonflies close to the bank, both for nymphs that crawl to shore to emerge and for clumsy, winged adults that fall or lay eggs on the surface. Fishing tight to structure and along willows or cutbanks has been productive.
Weather Outlook
The upcoming week in Missoula is expected to be warm and sunny, with temperatures ranging from the low 80s to mid-90s°F (27–35°C). These conditions should continue to support active hatches and productive fishing.
