Bitterroot Fishing Report 9/28/2024

Posted by Jeff Gray on

Fishing on the Root has been decent. Low flows and the sporadic hatches have made for tough fishing conditions over the last week or so. Our mild start to fall has postponed our usual fall hatches. BWO's and Mahoganies are around, but not in great numbers. The hopper fishing has been holding it's own and the October Caddis can elicit sudden takes. Still some trico's around if you want to test your skills and improve your technique. Plan B, Copper Haze, Hi-Viz BWO, BWO Cripples and Oct Caddis will be the bugs of choice until we see some inclement weather.

CAUTION: Atleast 2 sections have difficult drags, Victor-Bell and Woodside-Tucker. Bring help and strong backs if you're attempting these sections, as dragging around obstructions are certain.

Current Flows:

  • Darby = 258 CFS
  • Bell Crossing = 340 CFS
  • Near Missoula = 738 CFS
