The Bitterroot River is relatively ice free and fishing has been pretty decent.
Good morning folks, Jeff Gray here with Freestone Fly Shop. While the winter blues have set in for some, there is a group of hardcore anglers that have been out on the Bitterroot River swinging, stripping and chucking a bobbers around with some success. The real trick for winter fishing a freestone river is water temps. Look for the night time temps to be in the upper 20’s the night before you fish and you’ll typically find the fish more active the following day. With this warming trend we have coming up this week, it should make for some great winter fishing opportunities. Stop by the shop and stock up on all your necessities for a successful day on the water. See ya out there, tight lines!
