March Fishing Report

March 18, 2019

Fishing on the Root has really improved over the past week.  For the most part the river is ice free with a few exceptions, around Woodside and Below Veterans Bridge. Still no Skwala dries to speak of, but that may change over the next week. We'll keep you updated. As for flies for this time of year you'll be best prepared if your box is full of nymphs.  Here is our top 10 patterns to have:

#1. Pink San Juan Worm

#2. Blk/Coffee Rubber Legs

#3. Jig Headed Pheasant Tail

#4. Jig Headed Red Butt Jig

#5. Hot Bead Red San Juan Worm

#6. Jig Headed Brush Hog

#7. Tung Prince

#8. Sparkle Minnow

#9. Krafts Kreelex

#10. Olive Monkey

Still some shelf ice and and areas of ice covering the entire water, so be careful and don't be surprised if you have to do a drag or two, but it's been getting better and nothing too bad that we've seen. The boat ramps are a bit of an issue so be sure to scout them as well, we've heard of a few people getting stuck in the deep snow. Don't forget your tire chains just in case.
